I may not have a huge amount of experience with homeschooling just yet, but I am amazed at how much I have learnt this year! The thought of homeschooling your children can be one of the most overwhelming things that you come across in your life as a parent.

Thinking back to my schooling years, I feel like I retained nothing, but coming alongside my own children in their learning, I have discovered a renewed passion for learning.

Honestly, I now love our days. Gone are the rushed school mornings of getting dressed, hair done, eating breakfa...

I took on a love of travel with my first ever trip out of the country with a friend when I was 18. Being in a different country was exhilarating and seeing life through the eyes of others opened my eyes to how different life looked for some. Some of the best friends I have made were acquired through travel (including my gorgeous hubby).

So why is travelling such a great experience for kids? Here are 10 reasons taking your kids on a trip will teach them so much.

1. That everyone doesn’t live the same way

As an 18-year-old, it was fascinating for m...

Lately I have met many other parents who have mentioned that they have been considering home-schooling for one reason or another. Believe it or not, home-schooling is steadily on the rise here in Australia and according to estimates, the number of families in NSW alone has risen by approximately 70% since 2014. You can read more about that on SBS.

People choose to home-school for a variety of reasons with the main reasons including religious beliefs, bullying, anxiety and the belief that they can give their child more than the current scho...

Getting kids reading can be a challenge. I expect my kids to read every day but lately it has become a bit more of a chore for them. Instead of "Yay, we get to read!" it has become "Why do we have to read? Can't we just play?"

I knew it was time to make a change to get them loving reading again. Our routine had been for the girls to read at night time before bed for at least half an hour. I would get the kids in their pyjamas and we would all curl up together in the lounge room and read books from our collection and the library. After they had...

Australia has some beautiful zoos! I love being able to get up close and watch these animals. With my kids learning a lot recently about living things and studying animals, I decided it was time to take them on a fun excursion to Taronga Western Plains Zoo.

Taronga Western Plains is a gorgeous zoo that is set up on a huge site that allow for the animals to have beautiful large areas in which to roam. The space makes it seem like you are spying them out in the wild.

There are several ways to see the animals at the zoo. You can walk, take a bike,...

I had two days to play with. Two whole days where I had no commitments, no appointments and no plans. Deciding it was time for a road trip and weekend away I decided on Mudgee. Yeah, most people would choose the Central Coast, the blue Mountains or even the city but I had done all of those options so many times.... plus the Mudgee Running Festival was on this particular weekend! My decision was made and I informed my hubby of the plans.

Since we only had two days with my husband off work we had to make it count.

So I started planning....

I...

What says fun like a long drive with kids, no iPads or DVD players and lots of walking? I know right! Exactly my idea of fun (well it would be if you swapped out the kids for some peaceful music!).

Well, we decided that it was time to get the kids out of the house and get ourselves into nature. I'm not actually a huge nature person - I mean, I love nature but generally from a cosy room looking outside, or if I have to get really close to it then I really like elevated boardwalks so I am up, up and away from mud and bugs. With that in mind, our...

My mother's heart was breaking for my eldest daughter as she sobbed, tears streaming down her face. I could see how unhappy she was and my deepest concern was that this could do her damage in the long term. In the recent weeks and months she had become withdrawn, wouldn't make eye contact with people and quiet (which was really saying a lot).

My daughter was struggling with anxiety. Most of that anxiety came from school. It was at the point where she would cry the night before school because she was so stressed about it. Then spend the whole...
